Check what NatWest gives you first
A file straight from your bank will always be more accurate than one reconstructed from a PDF, so it is worth two minutes to check before converting anything. NatWest offers CSV, QIF and OFX, covering typically the last 12 to 24 months. If the period you need sits inside that, use it and skip this page.
NatWest gives you CSV, QIF and OFX within the export window, which is enough for most bookkeeping. What it does not give you is a spreadsheet of a statement from four years ago, and the abbreviations NatWest uses in its descriptions, BAC, BGC, FPI and the rest, are easier to work through in a sortable column than in a PDF.
Downloading the statement from NatWest
Statements live in the Statements section of NatWest Online Banking or the mobile app, and the online archive runs to five to seven years at the time of writing. Pick the period you need and download the PDF rather than printing to PDF from a screen, because a printed screen loses the transaction table structure the converter reads.
If the account has been closed, or the statement was forwarded to you by someone else, you will not have online banking access at all. That is the most common reason people end up converting a PDF: it is the only copy that exists.
Converting it to Excel or CSV
- Upload the NatWest PDF to the converter above, up to 10MB. Several months in one file is fine, and so is a scanned PDF. Remove any password from the PDF first, because the converter cannot unlock it.
- The pages are read, with OCR where the statement is a scan rather than text.
- Check the transactions on screen against the statement before you download anything.NatWest statements typically carry Date, Type, Description, Paid In, Paid Out and Balance.
- Download an Excel workbook (.xlsx), or a CSV to open in Google Sheets or import into QuickBooks, Xero, FreshBooks or Sage.
Your first conversion runs without an account. A free account adds 7 free pages, and the monthly plans are priced by page count if you are working through years of statements or several clients.
What happens to your NatWest statement
Uploads travel over an encrypted HTTPS connection. There is no long-term file storage: the statement sits on the server only long enough to be read and is deleted 24 hours after upload. Conversion is fully automated, so no member of staff opens it. To read the pages, the converter sends them to Google's Gemini AI. The full privacy policy sets out the detail.
Reading a NatWest statement once it is in columns
NatWest publishes its own list of statement abbreviations, and some are close to unique to the group: C/L for Cashline cash machine withdrawals, CDM for its cash and deposit machines and DPC for banking by PC, alongside the more standard BAC, BGC, D/D, S/O and POS. Withdrawals at machines run by other operators can appear as BMACH instead, which is not on that list at all. The abbreviations carry real meaning for a benefits assessor or an underwriter reading the statement, so being able to filter on them rather than scan for them changes how long a review takes.
Who converts NatWest statements, and why
NatWest and RBS customers make up a large share of UK small business banking, so business reconciliation dominates. Beyond that it is mortgage applications, where six months across two or three accounts is standard, and benefit reviews, where DWP entries need isolating from everything else in a period.
NatWest statement converter FAQs
How do I convert a NatWest bank statement to Excel?
Download the statement PDF from the Statements section of NatWest Online Banking or the mobile app, upload it to the converter on this page, check the transactions it pulls out, and download them as an Excel workbook (.xlsx) or a CSV. Your first conversion does not need an account.
Does NatWest let me download a statement as CSV or Excel directly?
NatWest offers CSV, QIF and OFX, covering typically the last 12 to 24 months. If what you need falls inside that window, use it, because a file straight from your bank will always be the most accurate. A converter is for everything outside it. Check your online banking, since banks change these limits.
How far back do NatWest statements go online?
Five to seven years, at the time of writing, available from the Statements section of NatWest Online Banking or the mobile app. That archive is PDF, which is the gap a converter fills.
Can I convert a scanned or photographed NatWest statement?
Yes, as long as it is a PDF. Scanned PDFs go through OCR, so a statement that was printed and scanned back in works, and a phone photo saved as a PDF does too. Use the original PDF when you still have it, since text-based PDFs are read directly and tend to be the most accurate.
Is it safe to upload a NatWest statement?
Uploads travel over an encrypted HTTPS connection, and the file is deleted from our servers 24 hours after upload. Conversion is fully automated, so no member of staff opens your statement. To read the pages, the converter sends them to Google's Gemini AI.
What columns will the converted NatWest file have?
NatWest statements typically carry Date, Type, Description, Paid In, Paid Out and Balance. The converter maps those into spreadsheet columns, so the output matches the shape of the statement you uploaded.
